Practical information

The pilgrimage of Chartres organized by the association Pilgrimages of Tradition, takes place every year during the 3 days of the Pentecost weekend and leads pilgrims from Chartres to Paris.

It is therefore 3 days of walking punctuated by prayer, meditation, times of silence and relaxation in a friendly atmosphere.

A hundred kilometers are thus covered, distributed degressively over the 3 days (for adults, about 40 km on Saturday, 30 km on Sunday and 25 km on Monday).

To reach or leave the pilgrimage along the way, shuttles are organized by the pilgrimage (see schedules on the Itinerary page).

Participants are grouped according to their age into walking groups  composed of  “chapters” (small groups of about 30 to 50 pilgrims), themselves grouped according to their region of origin.

Each day includes a Mass, times of prayer and common songs, meditations supervised either by chaplains or by responsible lay people.

Priests are available to pilgrims all along the column so that they can come to confession or simply discuss and ask questions.

To allow pilgrims to participate as well as possible, the association provides each participant with a handbook containing songs, meditations, prayers and texts of the masses you will attend.

The  pilgrims’ large luggage is transported by a team of volunteers  and regular stops are planned every two hours or so with toilets, as well as medical care and rescue points run by health professionals and the Red Cross.

Vehicles follow the route and allow people who cannot continue the walk to reach the major stops at noon or evening.

Common camping areas (bivouacs) are provided every evening in spaces equipped for this purpose, with water points, toilets, first aid stations and kitchens for  meals  (be careful, the organization of the pilgrimage does not cover all meals).
